Musings – On Autumn

Ah, September…I’m so glad you’re here! I know autumn doesn’t officially start for a few weeks, but you can feel it in the air anyway. I don’t thrive in the summer – I’m ready to say goodbye to the heat, the bugs, and the busyness.
I love autumn.
I love the crisp air in the mornings, sometimes with the scent of pinon smoke coming from somebody’s woodstove.
I love pulling out my boots and handknit sweaters from storage, smelling the leather and lanolin.
I love harvest season, all my friends who are better gardeners than I am offering to share their abundance. I love playing at farmers’ markets in the fall, soaking up the joyous energy and appreciating the beautiful displays of produce in every color. I love switching from salads and cold drinks to red wine and hot soups.
I love walking and riding horses in the fall, seeing the changing leaves and feeling the gentleness in the air.
I love Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, and Thanksgiving. I love the scent of fresh roasted green chile when I go to the grocery store. I love apples and pears.
I love wool festivals, drooling over yarn and dreaming of my next project. I love watching chipmunks and squirrels scurrying around collecting food and insulation for their winter hideouts. I love watching birds collecting seeds from the spent sunflowers in the yard.

I love autumn.

~I didn’t manage to complete any knitting projects this month, but I did win Best in Show at the Taos County Fair for a shawl I knit awhile back!!! (not sure the competition was too stiff, but I’ll take it anyway!)

Thank you for reading! Please feel free to forward on to anyone you think might be interested in my ramblings, see you next month!
PS A few people have told me they tried to post a comment and weren’t able to…I don’t know why, but if anyone else has an idea how to fix it please let me know!
