Musings – It’s Done!!!!!!!

After several months of working, collaborating, worrying, and waiting, I’m happy to say my new album is finally done!!!!!

This one has been a long time in coming…fourteen years since my last solo recording. On it you will find twelve original songs, one adaptation of a poem by my friend Daniel Ladinsky, and one cover song that I will talk more about in a future newsletter.

A few of the songs might be familiar to you, as I’ve recorded them in other iterations. I wanted to redo them and claim them as fully my own. The tracks range from quiet acoustic folk songs to lush, full-sounding waltzes to a hard rock finale that I hope will melt a face or two. I imagine if a critic ever gets ahold of it they would not approve of the sonic whiplash, but I think it represents who I am musically in a way none of my other work has.

This was truly a collaborative effort. I’m so grateful to all the musicians who contributed to the project. Across the board, they treated my songs with care and brought their own unique sensibilities to their parts. I’m especially grateful to Boris McCutcheon and Chipper Thompson…their contributions were so vast that I feel like this album is as much theirs as it is mine.

Boris’ Cactusman Studio was an ideal place to record, simultaneously relaxed and professional. Boris is highly skilled as an engineer and producer, and he was invested in helping me create a finished product that captured the essence of each song in a genuine way.

The album is available for streaming and downloading on all the usual platforms (Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Tidal) and physical CD’s are scheduled to be delivered in a couple of days. They’ll be available at my gigs, and also on the music page of my website.

Anyway, I hope you’ll give a listen, and I hope you like it! Please feel free to share with all your friends – since I’m not on social media anymore I’m relying on word of mouth to help this collection of songs make its way into the world.

a little (p)update

If you read my musings in last month’s newsletter about dogs, you might recall that I said my husband and I hoped to start a senior dog rescue someday. Well, it seems the Universe was listening, albeit selectively. Several days after that newsletter went out, Jeff was riding his motorcycle on a forest road behind our house when he came across a litter of seven puppies and no human or adult dog in sight. They had obviously been dumped. He came home and told me, and by the time we got to the got back to where he saw them they had scattered in the woods. They were scared, skittish, and exhausted. To make a long story short, we and some neighbors spent the next two days rounding up the pups and fostered them until Stray Hearts, the shelter in Taos, was able to take them in (the neighbors kept one and named her Luna). Of course we wanted to keep them all, but now they will all be spayed/neutered and on their way to good homes.

There is a special place in hell for people who dump puppies in the woods.
